Titled so because I was listening to Nickelback's Savin' Me at the time I finished it.
Oh God, this took forever, and with over 38 layers in total, it is probably my biggest image I've seen to completeion. The original image is much larger then this.
I dunno about this image's background, weather it works with or against the subject and I might change it later, when I get better at backgrounds.
The wings took for ever just to get them looking right, even with references, as I have no clue how to deal with feathers, so any tips on making them look like feathers would be VERY helpful.
Please, if you are going to comment about it critically, please don't only tell me what is wrong with it, but tell me how I can improve / fix it too. As this is far more healpful then just pointing out the flaws.
Side note: Teel-ish hair.... it was the colour that worked best with the wings/skin.
i really love the wings, they're really interesting. they look like they really could fly. its funny that you started a picture of an angel while listening to 'savin me' because i started drawing an angel when listening to that song as well! i posted it on dev art, the finished picture is called shy angel. go see it
although the background seems to clash a little with the pale pastel colours it doesn't look bad because the constrast creates a focal point o the wings. i think the background you have done is really really nice, i love the subtle lines and the blood splotches.
but it could also look really good if the angel was perched on a tall building in a crowded city. ya know like in the song 'on the ledge of the 18th story'?
as for the person, love the lines of the legs.
although i do think the hair line normallly covers all the head down to the base of the neck where it joins the head. and maybe the bottom line of the arm, instead of curving up, should curve down or be more of a diagonal line, theres like a fold of skin that is attached just under the arm. kinda hard to explain. um im no expert but i think the chin should extend beyond the neck and head and fold back instead of being sort of inside the head/neck. unless of course the person is looking sideways... but the hair and wings = beautiful
Yeah, I was not to sure about the background, and tried to have the angel on the rock over water, but that really did not work out well. Perhaps I will have to try the ledge idea.
Thank you for the tips about the hair line, I will have to remember that for next time. I think I understand the skin thing. Good point about the chin / neck thing too.
Thank you I'm really glad you like it!
Thank you for the favourites and the handy comment! It helps alot!
I agree with alot of what derek-of-spades said. The main thing that stuck out for me about this picture though...was the outline, I feel it would have been SOO much more beautiful and emotional if you had left the dark outline out...it really 'graphic-a-fizes' it...and well...you could go that route if you wanted to, but you put such beautiful detail in the wings and body that it sorta.....well....cheapens it
I think the background problem could be fixed with just having colors in it that are complimentary to the figure, like...maroon with teal, and some sort of green with the flesh color...or maybe just maroon...and possibly darker to make the figure pop out more?
